What is a landfill?

A landfill has cells. A landfill sometimes is turned into a park after it is filled up.

Landfills are a far cry from trash dumps.

When landfills are full they pour soil on top of the trash and that makes a hill.

Landfills are carefully designed to isolate trash by surrounding the environment with a bottom liner and daily covering of soil.

There are 15,000 Landfills in America today.

There are two layers under the landfill to protect the ground

Covering the trash with soil helps stop air contamination with gas and trash and keeps rats and other vermin out.
